THE PROPER GOLFERS

To make a great tour, you need great members. Some of the faces below are very ugly, some are very pretty, but all are the faces of men who have played a part in the success of the WPGA Tour. You aren't a member of the WPGA Tour unless you have stared Dave down as you hole a 6ft putt, or blamed Chris for something. If you are lucky enough to earn a seat at the 3 Moughals come Xmas time, then congratulations. You belong here.

Ian Truman

Charasmatic born entertainer. Back in the early days of the WPGA Tour, Truman was a maverick, long hitting birdie machine who's memorable moments mainly consisted of explosions of rage and broken clubs rather than victories. Come 2013, Ian was the man who took it upon himself to revive the WPGA Tour. The new Ian was armed with a new found conservative game, particularly off the tee and the wins started piling in, including a WPGA record 6 wins on the bounce. Recorded Major wins in each of the first 3 years of Tour. Hits the ball very high. The old Ian is now back.

David Nowell

The most wanted scalp on tour. Beating Dave always has, and always will be, the prize that everyone wants. The early days of the WPGA Tour are littered with Dave's victories, but most fondly remembered for his defeats. The most consistent player on tour by a mile, Dave is rarely out of the frame, and is never prepared to give up. Despite racking up a boatload of majors in the early days, Dave is yet to break his major duck since the renewal of the tour.... Despite this he ended the first season ranked as a well deserved number 1, before a gradual tumble down the rankings ensued, you'd think this would change people's desire to beat him... you'd be wrong.

David Lomax

Lomie (or Lomo as he's sometimes called) made his debut in the 2013 Matchplay, and has become a tour veteran, despite some early struggles with the level of competition, it didn't take Lomie long to work out his level, and was rewarded with a well deserved 1st victory, in a major championship no less!  A sterling start to 2015 saw Lomax take both his 2nd Major and the prestigious West Wales Tour Series titles, both times beating Dave N in playoffs, on his way to a well deserved World No1 ranking and POTY award. Lomax is also the only member of tour with his own fan club, with Lamb acting as secretary, chairman and founder. Everyone is bored of him winning now.

Chris Lucas

C-Dash was found by the group wandering around the Roman Road course like a lost sheep. After 4 shots, the group thought they had found a superstar. After 4 holes, they knew they hadn't. Chris has long been regarded as the luckiest member of tour, frequently using trees to redirect errant shots towards the hole. However no-one was complaining when Chris won the group an expenses paid trip to St Andrews, which some members of the tour (mainly RD) still reminice about. Chris' low point on tour came on the 17th at Dewstow where a 4 shot lead was choked away in Van De Velde like style. Life on the new tour has not been kind to Chris, with his low handicap being taken advantage of by the numerous sharks and bandits that reside on tour.

Gavin Facey

Raised just a par 5's distance from Dewstow, Gavin became infamous on tour even before he became an official member, with his storm off the course at Monmouth going straight into the WPGA history books. Despite a suspect, some would say fragile, temperment on the course, Gavin has broken into double figures on a few occassions and presents an obvious threat when he plays well. Gavin starts every year with a resolution to play more golf, a resolution that rarely lasts more than a full round. As Ian's best man, 2016 brings pressure on Gavin to organise the inagrual French Open

Lamb is integral to the tour, and has provided most of it's most memorable moments. No one who was around back in the day to witness Lamb's putting stroke when confronted with a chance to win the US Open will ever give him a 3ft putt ever again. Looking back, the young ML must have been one hell of a player... he managed to win tournaments despite a set of equipment which can only be described as "inferior" - If it wasn't Turtle putter and its tiny but trampoline like sweet spot, or Seal irons, and their shafts made of licorice... it was his Champione stand bag. Stand bag being an inapropriate description for a bag which would fall over if wind speeds got above 5mph. Lamb has bonded with two newer members of tour particularly well, building a firm friendship with Mark, and a fierce (very one sided) rivalry with Lomax!

Darren Shallis

Darren joined the tour for the reunion season. He instantly endeared himself to Dave, who spent an entire round praising Darren's ability, with a barely concealed motive of trying to convince him to turn out for the Strollers. Darren did however prove one of the most reliable members of tour, making a high number of appearances and proving dedicated to the tour. Darren has a good all round game, with only two weaknesses... Trees and bunkers. If we ever find a course with no hazards, you won't find a bookmaker around who will lay odds against D-Shal. Darren's game has undoubtedly come on over his time on tour, though he'll still try and argue he should be back off 20. Darren etched his name into tour legend with his constant battles with the minibus on the West Wales tour, and the "arms out" gesture that will forever be synonymous with him.

Rob Doody

RD has come a long way from the days of the banana slice off the tee, and is now usually found discecting fairways. Rob is highly elusive, often claiming that Sal wont let him out, however we all know that secretly he is at home playing on Championship Manager 2001/02, dreaming of the day he can sign Sharbel Touma for Man Utd. There are also rumours that Britain's last recession was partially caused by Rob putting in a couple of hours overtime on top of his usual seven figure salary. On the course, Rob was responsible for the best round of 2013 as he tore up Thornbury in the gloom to win the USPGA. Rob is consistently abused for his continual precence atop the rankings, which may explain his continued efforts to throw away the Matchplay every year!

Mark Marasco

A 2-time Newport Snooker Champion (a long time ago) Mark has bandit written all over him. Don't let the lack of woods and short distance fool you, Mark has honed his hustle over the years to ensure that any par 4 is reduced to three straight shots and two putts. When he's on form those 2 putts turn into 1 putts. However his weakness on long carries and water holes can sometimes catch up with him. Mark has struck up a firm alliance with M-Lamb, a friendship that somehow survived Lamb's near death experience from Mark's 350 yard booming drive, which lead to a Lamb meltdown and several layers of rubber being left on the carpark exit.

Andrew Lucas

Drew is Chris' younger sibling, and made a strong debut on tour by finishing in the top 3 in The 2013 Masters. Although his subsequent results havent lived up to that early promise, Drew has some serious potential, long off the tee and capable of going on scoring streaks, Drew just needs to add some consistency to his game and he can threaten the big guns, as he showed by taking Dave to extra holes in the 2013 Matchplay. Drew also had a great chance of winning the West Wales tour, with only one poor round getting in his way. Andrew may never make it as a golf pro, but certainly fancies himself as a commentator... as what every golfer enjoys, after carving one out of bounds, is one of Drew's famous exclamations: (e.g. Thats WAY RIGHT! Or WHOAAAHH, or my personal favourite: It's in THE ROUGH!!!)
Drew is also responsible for introducing the group to the world of Flash Scores, changing many lives for good.
